Developed by Pocketpair, Palworld offers players a captivating blend of creature collecting, base building, and survival elements, all set against a backdrop of stunning landscapes and adorable creatures. In this blog I will discuss why this game has my vote for game of the month, and it’s only still in early access.

Palworld: Where Friendship Knows No Bounds

At its core, Palworld revolves around the concept of forming bonds with an array of charming creatures known as Pals. These Pals aren't just your typical companions; they're your allies, your friends, and sometimes even your work force in the journey through Palworld's vast and dynamic world.

From fluffy sheep-like creatures to majestic dragonesque like creatures and beyond, the diversity of Pals you encounter in Palworld is truly astounding. Each Pal boasts its own unique abilities, traits, and personalities, making the process of capturing them a delightful adventure in itself.

You can also breed pals with the same pal to make a better pal with better stats. Or you can breed pals with different pals to make new and exciting versions of pals you haven’t encountered yet.

You can also make special items for your pals. Some pals can transform into a glider mount for you. Or hold a machine gun to help defend your base against raid attacks.

Make sure to look after your pals though. By ensuring they have a food basket full of food (berries are enough), placing enough beds and a hot spring fountain that they can relax in after doing their work. If you don’t, pals can get sick and injured. Which requires medication that takes a while to craft. You may even have to put them back into the pal box to heal recover if they get to bad.

Building Your Dream Base

But Palworld isn't just about forging connections with your Pals; it's also about creating a home where you and your companions can thrive together. The game offers pretty standard survial base-building mechanics that allow you to design and customize your own sanctuary amidst the wilderness. The base building is alot like Ark Survial Evolved base building. Where you have a foundation blue print piece that you can place down. This is the same with walls and roof pieces as well. I would really like to see rotation on the side triangle pieces, as of writing this you can only flip horizontally. The game is still in early access so this may get updated, hopefully.

Along with the traditional base building, they have incorporated a some what auto crafting situation. They have conveyer belts like Satisfactory but not to that extreme. Where you can order your pals to work on the conveyer belt and make you ammo or pal balls, etc. This is quite a nice feature as you can get the pals to craft items while you go explore the vast map. By the time you get back the pals are done.

Of course, life in Palworld isn't all sunshine and rainbows. As you explore the untamed wilderness, you'll encounter various challenges and threats that put your survival skills to the test. From battling hostile creatures to braving the elements, every day brings new obstacles to overcome.

Palworld is currently in Early Access. It is available on PC through Steam. It is also available on Xbox and is also free with Xbox Game pass currently. Although at the time of writing this the xbox version of the game is behind the Steam version. There is no cross platform play either at the time of this blog post.
